Who we are
Engineers Without Borders Germany is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to fighting extreme poverty in developing countries. Our committed volunteers are students, professors, professional engineers and other professionals, who work together to promote human development.
Our mission is to provide technical engineering assistance to find sustainable solutions in a context of cooperation and development.
What we do
Overseas
Engineers Without Borders Germany conducts technical engineering projects in developing countries around the globe. The success and sustainability of our projects are directly linked with the strong emphasis we put on collaboration, community implication, knowledge transfer, capacity building, training and monitoring. Moreover, Engineers Without Borders Germany provides technical support to other local NGOs.
In Germany
Here in Germany, we raise awareness and engage the German population to make educated choices that promote human development and to participate in building a sustainable environment.
The projects
Engineers Without Borders Germany conducts projects aiming to answer a specific demand. Prior to embarking on a project, each Engineers Without Borders regional group submits a project proposal to the Engineers Without Borders head office. The director of projects then performs a feasibility study of the project, assessing the group’s availability of resources, its technical capacity and overall knowledge. Once the branch obtains the “go ahead”, it proceeds with further investigation and on-site assessment. The group develops a partnership with a local NGO and builds trust within the local community. Together, they define the project’s scope. The project is carried out using local materials and local workmanship. Once the first project is complete and successful, the goal is for the local population to have the capacity to scale-up and carry out similar projects.
How you can help
Engineers Without Borders' projects and activities depend largely on the generosity of private donors and private corporations. The fundraising process takes place all year round, with Engineers Without Borders members also conducting fundraisers through a variety of creative activities and events.
