Jetzt haben sich insgesamt 61 Schüler/-innen zurück gemeldet – davon 70% Mädchen! Nur 9 Schüler kehren nicht zurück – leider sind auch die beiden schwangeren Mädchen trotz aller Bemühungen der Schulleitung darunter. Die Regierung hat gerade die Prüfungsgebühr um UGX 21.000 (EUR 5) auf UGX 164.000 (EUR 40) gesenkt. Zu wenig, doch jeder weniger Shilling zählt. Auch haben mittlerweile 40 % der Schüler/-innen die Gebühren voll oder teilweise gezahlt.

10-11-2020: 50 Schüler/innen sind zurück an ihrer Schule, doch mehr als erwartet! Sie bereiten sich auf die Abschlussexamen für Anfang 2021 vor - ungefähr drei Viertel von ihnen sind Mädchen – doch zwei schwangere Mädchen sind nicht zurück. Die Schule hat am 15. Oktober 2020 wieder eröffnet - seit Schulschließung im März 2020.

Die Registrierungsgebühr für die Prüfungen beträgt UGX 185.000 (EUR 45) für private wie öffentliche Schulen. Das Einkommen eines Haushalts hier auf dem Land mit 4 Personen beträgt monatlich im Schnitt UGX 463.000 (€ 115). Bisher konnten nur 5 Kandidaten den vollen Betrag bezahlen. Einige Studenten zahlten nur einen Teil. Die Regierung wird die Familien nicht bei der Zahlung der Gebühren unterstützen. Das Schulmanagement will die Zahlungsfrist für die Gebühren an die Schulbehörde bis Ende November nutzen, um mit den Eltern einen Plan für die ausstehen Zahlungen zu vereinbaren.

Gleichzeitig hat der Bau der Mädchen-Toiletten Fahrt aufgenommen, das Fundament ist bereits fertig. Da die Baustelle direkt neben den bestehenden Toiletten und Waschräume für die Mädchen liegt, wurde ein blickdichter Zaun zur Abschirmung ihrer Privatsphäre aufgestellt. Parallel hat das lokale Implementierungs-Team die Ausschreibung für die Jungen-Toiletten auf den Weg gebracht, um den Bau möglichst kurzfristig zu beginnen.

Bei den Inspektionen zur Einhaltung der Standard Operating Procedures durch die Behörden wurde der Zustand der vorhandenen Sanitäranlagen bemängelt.  Doch wie uns Mukasa Spire berichtete: “Inspections include sanitation and water facilities but as there is a sanitation project going on we are exceptionally waived off for some time” – zum Glück für die Schüler/-innen.

Die erwarteten starken Niederschläge der Regenzeit sind bisher ausgeblieben – und wir hoffen, dass das Wetter uns weiter gewogen bleibt.

Only 9 students do not return - unfortunately the two pregnant girls are among them, despite the best efforts of the school management. 10-11-2020: 50 students are back at their school, fortunately more than expected! They are preparing for the final exams in early 2021 - about three quarters of them are girls - but two pregnant girls are not back. The school reopened on October 15, 2020 - since the school closed in March 2020.

The registration fee for the exams is UGX 185,000 (EUR 45) for both private and public schools. The income of a household here in the country with 4 people is on average UGX 463,000 (€ 115) per month. So far, only 5 candidates have been able to pay the full amount. Some students only paid part. The government will not help families pay the fees. The school management will use the payment deadline for the fees to the school authorities until the end of November to agree a plan with the parents for the outstanding payments.

At the same time, construction of the girls' toilets has picked up speed, the foundation is already ready. Since the construction site is right next to the existing toilets and washrooms for the girls, an opaque fence was set up as a screen for privacy. In parallel, the local implementation team launched the tender for the boys' toilets in order to start construction as soon as possible.

During the inspections by the authorities, the condition of the existing sanitary facilities was criticized. The heavy rainfall expected in the rainy season has not yet materialized - the current weather suits us and and we hope it stays that way.
