Untätig sind Sarah, Diana und Maik ganz bestimmt nicht in ihrer 2-wöchigen Erkundungsreise vom Team der Regionalgruppe Leipzig! In den letzten Tagen wurden wertvolle Kontakte geknüpft, potenzielle Materialstellen erkundet und ein paar Wasserproben genommen.

Für letztere haben die Einheimischen mit Sarah und Maik eine 25-minütige Wanderung zu einer zu beprobenden Wasserstelle unternommen. Für uns klingt das vielleicht nicht so lange, aber wie uns berichtet wurde, war der Weg schon mit festem Schuhwerk beschwerlich, es ging sprichwörtlich über Stock und Stein. Nur, dass die Stöcke mitunter größere Äste waren und die Steine wackelig. Dies kann für die Einheimischen zur Gefahr werden, gerade, wenn sie sich die steileren Hänge hinunter voll beladen auf den Rückweg machen.

Am Ziel angekommen wurden dann die mitgebrachten Wasserkits ausgepackt und das Wasser auf verschiedene physikalische und chemische Parameter hin untersucht wie z.B. pH-Wert und Nitrat.

Schon aus den Ergebnissen vor Ort wurde klar, dass diese Quelle nicht weiter zur Verwendung als Trink- und Haushaltswasser genutzt werden sollte, da neben den Menschen ebenfalls Tiere an die Wasserstelle kommen und dadurch auch ihre Verunreinigungen dort mit eintragen. Das könnte in der Zukunft zu vermehrten Krankheiten in der Bevölkerung führen. Daher werden in den nächsten Tagen weitere Wasserstellen bewandert und beprobt, aber auch Alternativen für die Wasserreinigung erkundet.

Und erwähnt werden muss auch einmal, dass alle Hier-Gebliebenen von unserer Regionalgruppe fleißig daran arbeiten die Bilder von den Bauwerken, Wasserstellen, Materialorten u.a., welche uns Sarah, Diana und Maik immer wieder senden, auszuwerten und zu kommentieren. Die Gedanken und Anmerkungen werden gesammelt, geordnet und in übersichtlicher Form nach Kenia übermittelt. Damit versuchen wir sicherzustellen, dass alle Besonderheiten vor Ort bis ins kleinste Detail erkundet und dokumentiert werden, sodass eine gute Weiterbearbeitung in Deutschland folgen kann.

Sarah, Diana and Maik, our team of the Leipzig Regional Group, are not idle in their 2-week exploration trip! In the last few days, valuable contacts have been made, potential building material sources have been explored and a few water samples have been taken.

For the latter, the locals took Sarah and Maik on a 25-minute hike to a water hole to be sampled. For us, this may not sound so long, but as Sarah reports, the road was already arduous with sturdy footwear, it literally went over hill and dale, meaning over sticks and stones. Only that the sticks were sometimes larger branches and the stones rather wobbly. This could be a danger for the local people, especially if they are heavily loaded and must make their way down the steeper slopes on the way back.

Upon arrival at the destination, the water kits were unpacked and the water examined for various physical and chemical parameters, such as the pH – value and nitrate content.

It was already clear on site from the test results, that this source should not be used as potable or service water. That is, because in addition to the local people there are animals coming to the water hole, polluting the water. In the future this could lead to an increase of illness and diseases in the population. For this reason, further water points will be explored and sampled in the next few days, but we will also seek out alternatives for water purification.

And it should be mentioned too, that all those who remained here of our Regional Group work diligently to evaluate and comment on the pictures of the buildings, water holes, building material sources, etc., which Sarah, Diana and Maik send over to us again and again. Their thoughts and notes are collected, sorted and transmitted to Kenya in a clearly structured form. Thus we try to ensure that all particularities on site are explored and documented down to the smallest detail. This enables good subsequent processing and continuation of the project over here in Germany.
