"Die Bauarbeiten für Zisterne II gehen planmäßig voran," berichten Sandra, Dennis und Fabian aus Gayaza. "Die Wände sind fertig. Boden und Wände werden gerade verputzt. Die Rohrleitung für den Anschluss dieses zweiten Tanks wird in den nächsten Tagen installiert."

Und genau dafür sind wir vor Ort – denn wenn es nicht so kommt, wie geplant, sind wir erst richtig gefordert: Unser Partner ARCOS befürchtet Belästigungen und Angriffe auf Mädchen, vor allem wenn sie nachts die vorhandenen Latrinen auf dem Schulgelände benutzen. Als vorübergehende Lösung soll kurzfristig ein Teil des Waschraums für Toiletten abgetrennt werden.

In der Kürze der verbleibenden Zeit vor Ort steht unser Team steht vor der Herausforderung, die Latrinen-Grube so zu sichern, dass die Bausubstanz nicht gefährdet ist, und die Abwässer nicht das Wasser in den Tanks gefährden.

Das ist es, was unsere Projektarbeit spannend macht, Anleitung und Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe.

An Added Challenge

"Works for the second cistern are on track", Sandra, Dennis and Fabian report from Gayaza. "Walls are build up and plastering along with the bottom slab is in progress. Piping to connect the second tank will be installed within the next few days."

That's, why we are on site – if it does not work out according to plan, it's that demanding challenge we are looking for: Our partner ARCOS worries about harassment and assaults on the female students, in particular when using the latrines in the open school grounds at night. A section of the girls' washroom should be separated as a quick but temporary solution.

In the short time available on site our team faces the challenge, to secure the latrine pit without endangering the building structure as well as to guide the waste water without effecting the water in the tanks.

Well, you see, that's what makes our projects so challenging, guiding people to help themselves.
